As a society we have all had to make changes due to the current global pandemic and face masks or face coverings are now advised when shopping or when travelling on public transport and other enclosed spaces. We decided to use our production capacity to try and help stop the spread of the virus during this pandemic, and both children and adult sized masks are available to purchase on our website.
For every pack of masks sold we will donate 20% to charity; shared between NHS Charities Together and Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity; the latter especially is very close to us after our Directors' son spent all of last summer there with a life threatening infection in his heart.
There has been a lot of speculation recently around face masks, but as the evidence grows, widespread general mask wearing along with testing and contact tracing are key to getting the virus under control. We've allocated some of our somewhat limited capacity to making them and hope that they will make a difference in reducing the spread of coronavirus.
During the first week of lockdown, our garment tech guru, Libby, put her skills to good use and whipped up a few face masks in a bid to help protect the team that are currently working in the TotsBots factory and warehouse. We thought they were mask-sniff-icent (we can't resist a pun!) and so they are now available to buy, with 20% of sales going to charity.
According to the WHO; the wearing of masks for the general public is primarily to prevent the spread of the virus from the wearer to others. TotsBots face masks are not medical grade PPE (all of which must be preserved for frontline workers in the NHS, care homes etc.) and whilst they offer some protection, they are not a replacement for social distancing and hand hygiene.
