We love catching up with parents who've used TotsBots reusable nappies on their little ones. Emily used our nappies on her son Ted, and was the first ever ‘Real Parent’ we featured on our site! Read on to find out about her journey using TotsBots cloth nappies.

How old was Ted when you did the photoshoot for TotsBots' real parents feature?

Ted was around 14 days old when we had the photoshoot. The article featuring our story was published when he turned 11 months.

Can you tell us about what motivated you to become a real parent for TotsBots?

After using cloth nappies with Talullah, I became a passionate advocate. I was so convinced of their benefits that I would eagerly share my love for them with anyone who would listen. Even years after we stopped using them, I still find myself professing my admiration for cloth nappies.

What was the experience like, considering you were still in the hazy baby moon?

I was fortunate enough to have two photoshoots with Fiona (TotsBots 'mum' and resident photographer) during those blissful, hazy days. It was an incredible opportunity to gain further advice on cloth nappy usage while creating cherished memories for the future. One of my favorite pictures is of a tiny Teddy nestled in a peenut crib.

Are you glad you did it?

Absolutely! At the time, many people I knew were still skeptical about cloth nappies, so I wanted to shout from the rooftops about their environmental benefits and share our positive experience.

How old is Ted now and what is he up to? Does he know he was a TotsBots baby model, and if so, what does he think about it?

Ted is now four years old and will be starting school this year. He's an energetic little guy who loves parkour and dancing. We often look back on his modeling days with fondness, and I enjoy showing him the photos. He thinks it's pretty cool, and we all love reminiscing about his adorable chicken legs.

What does he want to be when he grows up?

Ted aspires to be a T-Rex keeper. He has an undeniable fascination with these prehistoric creatures.

Are you an all-out eco warrior or mainly mainstream Mary? How would you describe yourself?

I would say I'm mainly a mainstream Mary with moments of being an eco warrior. I've made two significant switches towards sustainability by using reusable nappies and opting for period pants and pads.

What did you love most about using cloth nappies?

There were several things I loved about using cloth nappies. Firstly, they looked beautiful on my children. Secondly, I appreciated that my bins were no longer filled with stinky disposable nappies. Lastly, there was a sense of satisfaction and pride when the sun shone, and my washing line was adorned with fluffy cloth nappies.

What advice would you give to other parents out there?

If you're considering trying cloth nappies, my advice is simple: just do it! I often encourage my friends to buy a few cloth nappies if they're uncertain, or they can explore nappy libraries if available. Even swapping out one disposable nappy per day makes a difference. By trying them out gradually, you can experience their convenience and benefits before fully committing. By using just one a day, that’s 365 nappies not going to landfill, so that’s a great start.

I am so chuffed to have been part of the cloth nappy community. There is loads of help out there, and with a world in crisis, this little swap is a great decision you will never regret.
